What To Know Before Hiring Knights Club
What is a roaming band?
A travelling band, also known as “strolling band”, is a group of acoustic musicians, that in the absence of any cables or amplification needs, are therefore free to roam the space where they perform, delivering an immersive musical experience.
At Knights Club, we like to think of ourselves as “guerrilla music performers”, totally mobile and always on the offensive!
How long is a Knights Club performance?
A show normally consists of 2 or 3 sets, each 30 – 35 minutes in length, like a series of mini-concerts where the Knights move around and interact with the guests as they serenade, are playful, flirtatious, high energy and above all, incredibly entertaining!
Where are Knights Club based?
Knights Club HQ’s are in Geneva, Switzerland, but our musicians are based in between Geneva and the French Riviera, depending on the time of the year, and can travel worldwide.
How far do you travel?
Throughout their “musical crusade” the Knights have played on every continent apart from Antarctica. In fact we are always sure to have our passports with us ready for any emergency musical situation!
Our event has guests of different nationalities. Can you engage with an international audience?
Destination events and parties with guests from many different countries are Knights Club’s main specialty. Our international band members can speak fluently in English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, and sing in up to 8 different languages!
What kind of stage do you need?
We are totally mobile and love to interact with our audience, so we don’t require a fixed stage.
Are Knights Club very loud?
Enough to make a party but we don’t follow loud amplified music. Background music before we perform is no problem, however it must be turned right down five to ten mins before we start.
We have a big event, how many people is too many for a Knights Club performance?
For events with over 200 guests it’s usually better for us to use wireless headset microphones (tech rider supplied upon request).
However, even when using microphones, we still keep the intimacy of playing to tables whilst allowing other guests to talk, at least at the beginning anyway! This way we can add more volume later in the evening when the party gets wild!
What about sound checks?
Only if we’re being mic’d up. See above.
Do you have a set list?
No two audiences are the same, so no two shows can be the same and we can’t stick to any set list. We love to know if you have a favourite musical genre, and if we can make it work, we’ll always learn a special song. During our show we move table to table and we need to have the freedom to choose whichever song we think will work at that moment or to be able to take requests from guests on the night. So you will just have to trust us!
When’s the best time for you to start performing?
The best scenario is when guests are seated and half way through the starter or main course. We will make a stronger impact and bring more joy if we have the element of surprise on our side!
Alternatively the first can be a cocktail set, which can set the mood with classic swing and great easy listening music and as always with Knights Club’s unique brand of immersive entertainment.
How much space do you need to perform?
If there’s room for a waiter, there’s room for us!
Do you bring all your instruments, even when you fly to an event?
We bring everything we need apart from the contrabass if we have to fly. So we just ask for a double bass to be supplied, this just makes everyone’s lives easier. Airlines can get very confused and alarmed if we turn up with such a big instrument!
Do you guys need food or drink?
We do a lot of travelling and put a lot of energy into every performance so we have to stay as healthy as possible. A good hot healthy meal will always ensure that we’re on top form for you. A chef will often wish to serve the guests first and the musicians after. This is totally understandable and correct, however as we usually start performing while the guests are eating, that’s impractical. We prefer to be able to eat before, and we find that as long as this is explained in advance, chefs are usually fine with it.
Is there anything else we need to know before we book you?
Knights Club are very versatile and have dealt with a lot of unusual requests. Always feel free to discuss with us any ideas, or special requirements you may have and we’ll do our best to deliver a bespoke package that will really work for you.
Climate Action
With over 200 performances a year on all four corners of the globe, traveling by airplane is an inevitable part of our work, which we can only sometimes avoid.
We’re aware that, however tiny on a global scale, our contributions to CO₂ emissions are above the average, so we’ve decided to do something about it.
We’ve teamed up with Climeworks, a Swiss company specialising in carbon capture technology that absorbs CO₂ directly from the air. When the removed CO₂ is combined with underground storage, it permanently removes excess and legacy CO₂ emissions, which can no longer contribute to climate change. So thanks to this collaboration with Climeworks, we reduce our collective carbon footprint.
